78:365 star light star bright

78:365 star light star bright

yesterday i came home from my trip to Florida and New Orleans. I was home for less than 24 hrs and it was fairly uneventful (except that I saw the season finale of Pretty Little Liars!) so I didn't snap any photos. here is one from tonight instead. perty lanterns!

78:365 Super Sunday

78:365 Super Sunday

sooo apparently in New Orleans there's an annual parade of "Indians" who strut down around town in elaborate and bright costumes. these people aren't Indians, as in Native Americans, like the ones that might automatically enter your mind. these "Indians" are black people whom have a history with Native Americans and who associate themselves with different gangs, historically. they dress according to the gang that they represent and all gather in the streets for a parade to keep their history alive. although he's dressed in this flashy ensemble, he still looks like he could cut someone with no hesitation.

77:365 St. Patty's Day parade

77:365 St. Patty's Day parade

in New Orleans nearly every celebration involves beads. we watched giant floats go by as they tossed beads by the handful out to the swarms of people lining the streets. if you're ever in town for this spectacle be careful because along with beads are heads of cabbage! no joke!

76:365 magic in the streets

just one of many acts that partake in the daily culture of New Orleans.

75:365 so this is Nola?

75:365 so this is Nola?

whether it's musicians, artists, or what i can only describe as live caricatures, there's always something entertaining in the streets of New Orleans. i'm not even sure why this woman had a box out for money. there was no real talent going on. but her dog laid upside down in her lap for quite some time. it looked like he was melting in the heat as she continued to stay posed like that. hrmm....odd, but sorta cute(?).

maybe once a year i get to see this lovely face

whoops! i meant to post this a while ago. last week i was fortunate enough to get to hang out with the lovely Doctor Wong (and my favorite Kris as well of course).

Kris and i joined Leslie for a pub crawl around the mission. it was all sorts of goofy fun. i semi learned the term "heteronormative." actually, quite honestly i still have no idea how the word is supposed to be used because i learned it through the eyes of three Brown alumni and you know their minds are way more geeky than mine ever could be (haha! jk Leslie and friends....sort of). the rest of that night consisted of tons of laughter, a little bit of dancing, a super white honky tonk bar and some pizza.

the next day i met up with Leslie yet again, but this time with Kim as well. we went to our old stomping grounds (le Bux, or Starbucks to everybody else) and chatted away about our current and past lives. i love it when old friends get together and it's as if nothing has ever changed. i love that when someone is in town s/he will make time for me, and i them, because friendship is a two way street. every time Leslie is in town i can't not see her. she's one of my longest running friendships and even though i was sort of a bitch to her when i was younger, she somehow stuck around. thanks for that, Leslie! i love your friendship!

twas a fun couple of days having a rowdy fun time with a relaxed day together to follow.

74:365 trapped in ATL

74:365 trapped in ATL

yesterday i flew into ATL for a connecting flight to my final destination, New Orleans. after waiting in the plane on the runway for an hour and a half, with a little kid foot kicking me in the back constantly, the captain announced that we were going to exit the plane due to maintenance issues. seriously?? they couldn't have figured something out sooner?? they then offered us meal vouchers (only $6) because they were uncertain about how long we'd be delayed.

i used mine on froyo.

edit: we eventually flew off 3 1/2 hrs after we were supposed to and yes, that kid continued to kick my back the. whole. time! if i weren't in that tiny confined seat i would have drop kicked that dad and then Mortal Kombat punched him the throat real quick. or more accurately i would have done nothing (just like i did) because i'm passive like that. haha
